Keenan Research Centre and Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute
The Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Healthcare Education Centre create knowledge translation and narrow the gap between insight and impact at this 337,000 sq. ft. new research facility as part of the St. Michael’s hospital campus in downtown Toronto. We designed over 1,000 signs throughout the nine floors of the new building. The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute also recognizes $77 million in donations with our donor recognition signs and walls.

We designed distinct strategies for the three types of information, working with hospital leadership, the hospital foundation, donors, the architects and contractors in an intense environment to meet strict deadlines. Diplomacy was on trial to ensure all parties were satisfied.

A range of solutions was employed:

Large channel letters for exterior signage
Lettering on windows for building identification
Pinned letters for designated donor recognition areas
3D printed panels for room and elevator signage
Silk screened and digitally printed panels for donor walls

Production and Installation Management
In a project of this scale our experience and exacting standards were essential to the demanding specifications and installation schedule.

Temporary Solutions & Flexible Thinking
At the last moment we designed and had built and installed a temporary donor wall, when final giving commitments were in the balance. Our elegant solution was ready on time for the ceremonial and public opening, saving the day for photo ops. No one the wiser about the backstage crisis that was everted by our quick thinking.
